If there’s one thing the Pacific Northwest does well (and there are quite a few things we do well), it’s craft beer. We also have an abundance of great bars, restaurants, and independent breweries that serve it. Mixed drinks and cocktails too! Vancouver, WA is no exception. There are many fine establishments here that offer tasty snacks, appetizers, and small plates to accompany their beverage offerings.

1. Shanahan’s Pub & Grill

When you’re in downtown Vancouver between 3 and 7 pm stop by Shanahan’s for a selection of over 20 tap beers. Bring an appetite because happy hours offer dozens of plates, bites, and salads. Prices are low for these food items with the purchase of a $2.50 beverage. Enjoy $8 Grilled Bison Sliders or for $7 try the Alaskan Cod Tacos. Seven bucks also get you The Irish Nacho which, as you may have guessed, features potato skins filled with corned beef and topped with Irish cheddar and cabbage. For something a little lighter, there’s the Caprese Salad ($6), Mini Caesar ($4), or Hummus Plate ($7). Check their website for their new Happy Hour Menu coming soon. While you snack and imbibe, enjoy a game of pool or sit outside on the outdoor patio where dogs are also welcome.

2. Amaro’s Table

Amaro’s has two locations in Vancouver and two sets of Happy Hours at each spot. There’s a downtown and Hazel Dell location. Choose either to enjoy a cocktail made with Amari. Amari is an Italian bitter that helps digestion. That may come in handy after sampling a few of the restaurant’s fantastic happy hour offerings such as the Bavarian Cheese Fondue ($6), Carnitas Tacos ($6), or Herb Chicken Sandwich ($8). A rotating cocktail menu features complex accents of herbal, bitter, and floral liqueurs to appeal to every palette.

3. The Smokin’ Oak

If you like your barbecue done up Texas-style then mosey on over to the Smokin’ Oak. Take advantage of their Happy Hour menu every day from 2 and 5 pm and mess with Texas-inspired food items such as the Brisket Birria tacos for ten bucks or the Chicken Ranchero Tostado for eight. For comfort food done in the spirit of the Lone Star State, order the Brisket Mac topped with house BBQ and get two Brisket Sliders for $9. These mini sandwiches feature smoked brisket, caramelized onions, garlic aioli in an oatmeal stout reduction. And in true Texas spirit, order a four-buck draft of Shiner Bock. Other booze choices include a house red or white wine for $6, Texas Sangria for $7, and $4 Tall Boy cans.

4. Pacific House

The Pacific House has two locations including a spot downtown where they offer many hours of happiness. This joy includes a food menu that’s available all day long on Sunday which makes it the perfect place to watch a football game or two. A small plate of Castelvetrano Olives or Chili Lime Pork are two of the most affordable offerings at $5 and $4 respectively, but the Pacific House Burger is the best deal at $12. Served on a brioche bun with bacon, egg, or avocado as extras, you can also substitute elk for beef. Fried Brussel Sprouts and a three sauce chili make are veggie options while you enjoy a draft of an IPA, pilsner, ale, stout, or lager. Take a dollar off drafts, wine, and well drinks during Happy Hours.

Happy Hours: Daily 3 pm-6 pm, 9 pm to close, all day on Sunday

5. The Grocery Cocktail & Social

The Grocery keeps it casual with low lighting that creates a low-key atmosphere. This is the perfect spot to stop off after work to enjoy a cocktail or two and a quick bite. The drink menu is always changing but you’ll find a good selection of cocktails no matter when you drop in. If you visit during happy hours, try a $7 Margarita, Old Fashioned, or Gin & Tonic. Beer is five bucks and includes a small selection of regional offerings. A glass of house red or white wine is six and you’ll save a dollar on any one of their fantastic signature cocktails. For food options (all under ten bucks) try the Grocery Burger, an order of wings or hand-cut fries, mac n cheese, or a $2 Moroccan Lamb corn dog. Stop in on Sunday and enjoy these happy hour discounts all day long.

6.  Hudson’s Bar & Grill

Hudson’s Bar & Grill is located in The Heathman Lodge, but you don’t have to be a guest of this rustic wood hotel to take advantage of the great food and drink specials. Daily happy hours are observed in the restaurant’s Fireside Lounge as well as the outdoor patio. Happy Hour food choices include Gorgonzola Cheesecake and Crispy Fried Calamari for $11. House wines are 7$ per glass, their rotating drink special is also $7, and a Hudson Amber only sets you back five bucks. Don’t forget to ask about the Beer of the Day.

7. Frontier Public House

The husband and wife team behind the Frontier Public House brings over 30 years of combined experience in the hospitality industry to serve the people of Vancouver, WA. The couple created a friendly neighborhood spot where good food is available at a fair price. Happy Hour Snacks and salads include Chicken Strips, Cornmeal Sausage Poppers, Chips and Guac all for $8 or less. Fish & Chips is $10 and chicharrones (pork rinds) are $3. Well drinks cost $5.50, Signature Cocktails such as an Old Fashioned, Huckleberry Drop, and Margarita de la Casa are $7.50. Rainier drafts are $3 while a selection of craft beer is available for $5.50 which is also the price of their house red and white wine.

Frontier Public House

Happy Hours: Daily 3 pm-6 pm

8. Brickhouse

The Brickhouse opened in 2009 as a neighborhood pub that offers live music, good food, and great beers while appealing to families (minors are welcome every day until 9 pm). Their happy hour menu reflects this unassuming neighborhood bar theme with offerings of mozzarella sticks, nachos, BBQ pork sliders, and hot wings all for under $10. The Brickhouse prides itself on its wide selection of locally brewed craft beers. While their happy hour deals on drinks last from 3 to 6 pm every day the food menu discounts last from 11 am until 11 pm on Fridays. Local musicians take the stage Thursday through Saturday nights.
